Chapter 3

The long term internal conflict that took place in Cen’s Corporation was finally resolved.

If nothing goes wrong tonight, Ping city would have another influential figure in its midst.

–

In reality, attending tonight’s charity event wasn’t in Cen Sen’s original plan. It was his style to be professional, so when he was suddenly asked by someone to attend this event with Su Cheng, he provided her with the same patience that he offered to his family when accompanying them to participate in various events. He even bid the cherished pearl necklace that Su Cheng donated.

The purpose of this kind of small charity event was to demonstrate goodwill by donating and bidding, and Cen Sen’s high bidding price showed tremendous respect for Su Cheng.

“When Old Pei is free, come to our house with Mingshu to have dinner.” Su Cheng said slowly with a smile on her face.

This marked the end of the auction.

Many gazes shifted to Cen Sen.

Sitting in a dim spot of the room, he loosened the Windsor tie around his neck and leaned back in his chair with his legs crossed.

There were many guests tonight, and because he arrived late, many didn’t know that he was at the event until the auction. Now that his existence was revealed, the people who were familiar with him went to greet him, and the people who didn’t know him before also went to introduce themselves.

Ji Mingshu stayed very still in her seat with her face staring blankly at the empty exhibition booth.

Gu Kaiyang watched her in shock, the happiness that she had earlier when she won the promotion washed away by Cen Sen’s multiple biddings for Su Cheng’s pearl necklace.

“When did your husband come back? Did you guys have a fight?” She asked in a low voice

“No.”

Ji Mingshu only answered the second question, not knowing the answer to the first.

After an unknown amount of time passed, a pair of black leather shoes appeared in Ji Mingshu’s sight.

Ji Mingshu already had an image of the shoe’s owner in her head the moment that her eyes saw the way the shoes were tied. It was unique and familiar to her.

“Mingshu, let’s go home.”

His voice was just the right volume, so calm and casual that it gave Ji Mingshu the false impression that they were just a regular couple that regularly met.

–

“I have my car with me… I’m really…” Gu Kaiyang, who was wearing 10 cm tall skinny heels, almost fell over because she was secretly pulled by Ji Mingshu. “You guys can go home by yourselves, why drag me in? I don’t need you guys to take me…”

“Yes, you do.”

Ji Mingshu gave her a cold look, and Gu Kaiyang swallowed back the rest of her words.

Outside the academy, the storm just ended. There wasn’t a shred of light, only leaving a chilly yet humid breeze.

The driver opened the car door to the front seat with respect.

Seeing how Cen Sen didn’t take a step forward, Ji Mingshu stepped in without hesitation. But Cen Sen suddenly blocked her way using his arm, then casually turned to look at Gu Kaiyang.

Gu Kaiyang subconsciously jumped a bit. She soon understood and quickly walked forward in tiny steps to sit in the shotgun, leaving the couple the spacious back seats.

“Emmm, just drop me off at Xinggang International, thank you.”

Gu Kaiyang glanced at the frivolous couple sitting at the back seat through the rearview mirror of the car.

Both were looking straight ahead without any intention of interacting. The gap between their seating was wide enough to fit through an overweight 200 pounds person.

The Bentley continued to drive towards its destination. There was absolute silence for the whole 3 minutes, and Gu Kaiyang felt like all four of them would die of suffocation if this continued.

She was trying to think of a topic to end the dead silence when Cen Sen suddenly started to speak, “Congratulations on Ms. Gu’s promotion.”

Gu Kaiyang laughed out of instinct. “Thank you, thank you. I haven’t seen Executive Cen in such a long time, you also a-ced(slang for aced) it tonight.” She flattered.

Ji Mingshu rolled her eyes at Gu Kaiyang through the rearview mirror.

“A-ced?” Cen Sen was unfamiliar with such slang.

Not waiting for Gu Kaiyang to explain, Ji Mingshu replied first, “You can also think of it as you B-ced it.”
